What's The Rush?

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe the moments in between where you are trying to go, are the most important ones?

We all have numerous finish lines drilled into our head; the job, the relationship, the goals, to look a certain way, saving up a certain amount of money, let alone simply going from place A to place B. We tell ourselves that once we reach this finish line, we will be happy, we can finally enjoy ourselves. Can we? Absolutely, will we? Probably not. (But hopefully after this you can start).

If we are dying to get a certain job, enjoy the journey of how hard you are working to get there, that alone is something to be proud of. If you are seeking out a relationship, go out and do what you absolutely love doing and that’s where you would find someone perfect for you, if you are wanting to get in shape, appreciate what working out and taking care of yourself does for your mental health.

The journey on the way to our destination is where we live, not at the finish line.

As much as I have learned to lean into enjoying my journey, I am human and it is difficult not to wish I was in another person's place who is already at where I desperately want to be. But then I stop myself and think, if I magically appeared in this person's shoes, wouldn’t I want to have witnessed how I got here? Wouldn’t I want to look back at all of the challenges and wins and growth that I owe this to?

I wouldn’t be able to look back and appreciate getting there, and therefore, what meaning does it have?

If you constantly have tunnel vision to your end goal(s), you will likely miss out on the very reason you wanted it in the first place. Happiness? Peace? Content? Whatever it may be, the reality is that those feelings come from working towards something, and enjoying where you are right now while making your way to where you are going.

Just because someone else is where you want to be, doesn’t mean that slot has been filled. The world is wide enough for all of us to reach our destinations, and our lives are long enough to get where we need to go without missing out on the good stuff while getting there.

Life isn’t a race, or a competition, and we are certainly not all contestants or competitors. Life is about enjoying the damn thing, and being proud of ourselves and every inch of progress we make on the way.
